A Prayerful Decision

I have made a very prayerful decision in regards to my paintings. While I certainly believe God called me to this a few years ago, I feel as though He is now telling me that my time to paint is over. With the sweet responsiblity of raising two children and with a third on its way, it is best that I get to work on the precious canvases in my life.

My family has not always come first when it comes to painting. I have often made them wait while I finish this or that painting or while I stay awake in the early hours of the morning making certain the details are perfect. My husband and children do not deserve my leftovers... They are to get the very best of me, and to be honest, painting has taken that from them.

So, with that being said, Gifts of God Paintings will be closing at the end of 2011. The blog will remain open so that I can continue to showcase the gifts and talents God allows me to share with others, but as for taking orders and creating any new paintings, I will no longer be doing so. I hope to finish my current wait list by the end of this year, so I cannot take any new orders.

I don't know if I've ever enjoyed a painting as much as this one. Shannon contacted me to paint the "guest registry" for her upcoming wedding months ago. Now, that she's married, I can finally share this with you!

This painting was actually used at her wedding as the guest registry. All guests at the wedding were asked to "Fill the Branches with Joy" by signing their names on the trees branches. The phrase was one adopted by her family after Shannon's grandmother passed away, so I thought this was a beautiful way to honor her as well. I JUST LOVED the idea of this.

I don't have a photo of the tree with all of the signatures, but believe me, it was gorgeous!

It is Time

Gifts of God Paintings is closed until further notice.

After prayerful consideration and looking into the eyes of my sweet toddlers, I have decided that it is time to stop taking orders for Gifts of God. I began painting years ago after being inspired by these verses in Deuteronomy 6 which state, "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart... You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. I had time to paint before my children were born, and I was honored to create special pieces for our home as well as over 100 others during that time. However, my two boys demand much of my time, and I am blessed to say that I am able to stay at home and give them all the time I have.

Painting requires much time, and I honestly do not have it to give. The doorposts of my house (and those who live inside them) need my attention. Thus, painting will now be on hold...

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to create for your family, friends, and houses. It has been a privilege.

Do you remember back in January of 2009 when I did this office set?

While the above set actually made it into a preacher's office, there were three paintings I had done originally for his Office Space as seen here:

After seeing these ALMOST completed, I decided they were a bit too detailed and "girly" for a man, so I held onto them, thinking that ONE DAY someone would love to have them. Many "one days" came and went, and here we are two years later with a dear friend who decided she'd like them for a Christmas gift.

She chose the verses for each painting according to the recipient's favorites, and I simply added them. They were perfect!

Have you heard that Gifts of God is leaving Facebook?

Well, I am. It's a decision that's been carefully considered for months now, and I prayerfully know that God blesses His people when they follow His lead. I never imagined Gifts of God would ever have this much support, but when it did, my family continued growing and getting less of me. The exposure of Facebook has been incredible, but I don't have the time to paint by the dozens anymore... I'm completely okay with that.

However, I know that this is a gift God has given me, and I've seen this work touch so many lives over the past three and half years. There is no way I could EVER stop crafting, yet it is time to take a step back. My wait list is still full, and I suspect it will take me until March to complete all that it entails. However, after those are completed, I will open up a specific number of spots each month for paintings. I hope to spend more time on family and less time on painting... Friends and family, this is great news for you. I really want to create the pieces you've been wanting for years! You are my first priority; I want you to always know that.

I've Been Crafting... and Healing.

It's been a good three weeks since I have painted anything, and I have to tell you, it's been amazing. After a very difficult loss, I needed time to heal, and painting wouldn't have given me the time to do so. So, because I decided to stop painting through the holidays, God has miraculously allowed me to experience His grace in a mighty way. He's spoken to me regarding life... and my craft.

However, I'm creative and crafty at heart; it's the way God's made me. It wouldn't feel right if I wasn't crafting something. Here are a few things I've done throughout the holidays:

The LARGE Christmas Order

I received the largest order I've ever had this Christmas. A new friend of ours in the ministry ordered 8 paintings as gifts for their friends, family, and church members. You'll see how challenging this was after you see the details. However, I'm so grateful for it because I was stretched me beyond my usual limits and forced to be extremely detailed and intricate. Please notice that NONE of these paintings were small paintings... They were all quite LARGE in size and detail! :) Thank you, Tina and family for allowing me to create these special pieces for all of you!

The following three paintings are for three of the Madsen's church friends, who just so happen to all have the last name of Glass. Not only were the paintings going to have the same last name, but the same verse as well. I was supposed to make them look completely different. Here is what we came up with:

A Little Off the Painting Path...

Don't worry. I'm still painting. A LOT, to be exact.

The upcoming holiday has made its way onto my Gifts of God wait list, and I've painted more than I can actually share (just yet). However, what I can share with you is the fact that Christmas is right around the corner. I've been doing all I can to prepare, which pretty much consists of painting and shopping.

More importantly, I have been taking pictures like crazy. Around this time of year, I can't help but be on the hunt for the perfect "Christmas Card" photo. With two babies, 19 months and 6 months, it's almost impossible to get a decent one. It's important to me that our cards revolve around the blessings GOD has given us. I always choose a religious card because this truly is what Christmas means to us...

We've been known to send creative cards since marrying in 2007. In fact, our 2007 card was a wedding picture with a "Thank You" to our friends, family, and Lord for all they'd done for us during our celebration that year. Our 2008 Christmas card showed a picture of my husband and me with a small ultrasound picture of our first son who would arrive the following April! Our 2009 card announced we'd be having another boy! Just seems to me that Christmas cards are the perfect way to update ALL of our loved ones on the blessings we've received.

This year's card will have no surprises... Honestly, it will just be us, thankful and blessed. I'm excited though because for the first time, I'm ordering from Shutterfly. Their selection is HUGE! In one regard, it's so exciting to see my inbox full of orders, but on the other hand, as a mom to two baby boys and attempting to spend time with my husband every evening, it has become a little too much for now.

I am super excited to share this with you! For my birthday this year, knowing how busy I would be with two boys, my husband decided to purchase an embroidery machine for me! It's super easy and quick, so when I'm not able to paint, I'll always have time to embroider!

This first embroidered Gift of God was for some very dear friends of ours! We were due just a week apart, but little Miss Hannah Grace decided to come a month early. She's perfect in every way, and I was honored to see that she was wearing our gift to her in the hospital. My mom ordered this painting from me for a young mother at her church! I love the simplicity of it, and yet I like how detailed each stripe is. I adore this font as well; it's pretty much my handwriting on an everyday basis. This was just a fun one to do!

I told my husband a few days before this painting that I had a feeling that I was getting close to having completed 100 paintings since beginning Gifts of God, and if and when I reached 100, I wanted to give that person their painting for free. Okay, I realize it's a month after I finished this one and have done others, but it turns out that my mom's gift was the 100th painting!

I was beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to paint a Gift of God for a dentist's office. In all actuality, one of his employees who's my dear friend asked if I'd do a 12x24 piece for his birthday over six months ago... After MANY mishaps, you know like misspelling "dentistry" and then messing up with the gloss finish, I finally got it to the dentist for his birthday MANY months late. After receiving his piece, they decided they wanted TWO MORE to match to put in the LOBBY. I was floored that they'd actually hang my paintings in a professional business, but I feel blessed to have had this privilege.

I must admit I adore large families. I imagine them straight from Scripture because the Lord said, "Be fruitful and multiply." I know big families aren't for everyone, but this sweet missionary family in Virginia have been such an example to me as to what the Lord intends "family" to be... growing and gracious. Their love and support to the Lord's ministry is such a blessing, not to mention that they have 6 kids, ranging in ages from 14 - a few months. They are wonderful people!

The mom, Kim, asked me to do a piece with the children's names included on it; I, of course, decided to add the last name. It will be hung in their foyer with each child's baby picture hanging around the painting. I'm so excited to see what it looks like once it FINALLY reaches it's home on the East Coast. I really loved doing this painting because I love purples and greens but more so because of the little one's name, Eden. I've always loved that name and wanted it to go right along with what her name means in the Scriptures, "beauty and place of pleasure." I couldn't help but think of how gorgeous that garden in Genesis may have been!

My mom gave this painting to a sweet lady at her church who was having her third (?) child. The first 2 were boys, so I wanted to go ALL OUT on the girly features with butterflies and flowers. I think it is beautiful and will be a pleasure to view in Eden's room!

My son's name is Daniel, who just so happens to have been named from the Daniel in the Bible; you know, the one who lived to see the other side of a lion's den?! Amidst the busyness of painting, my neighbor quietly knocked on my door one late afternoon...

This was, by far, one of the most exciting and challenging paintings to do because 1) I had paintings upon paintings to complete but I just couldn't refuse doing this one, and 2) it was a surprise from my next door neighbor for his wife's Valentine's Day gift. He wasn't exactly sure on everything she would want other than this scripture because it was the favorite verse of her late grandfather. She had mentioned to me months ago that she wanted something like this done, but we never actually worked it out. So, when her husband came to me in secret asking me to do this for him, I was honored because I knew how much it would mean to her!

I haven't had a painting challenge like this one since I can remember, but honestly, I have never been more proud of anything I've created like I am about this one. The giver wanted Max's painting to match the pillow that came with his bedding, and if you cannot tell from the picture, it was incredibly detailed with tiny turquoise, olive green, brown, and ivory stripes. I hand painted each line and every letter, and I can say without doubt that this is my favorite Gift of God.
